The fact that I can plant a seed and it becomes a flower, share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another’s, smile at someone and receive a smile in return, are to me continual spiritual exercises. Leo Buscaglia
Sharing knowledge with others not only empowers them, but it empowers you as well. In fact, the more knowledge you share the more knowledge you gain. We cannot all possible know everything there is to know about a subject so when we engage with others freely sharing knowledge and information back and forth; new knowledge is created.
Another reason to share knowledge is that you develop yourself as an expert in your field or area of interest. People who share experiences immediately gain the respect of their peers and shine above the rest of the pack.
Sharing knowledge allows you to create your own opportunities. You never know whom you will share your knowledge with and where that will lead you, especially now in the Internet age. You could be networking on a forum and develop a relationship with someone who may offer you an opportunity down the road. Your willingness to share knowledge will endear you to others in your profession and you will undoubtedly be asked to share frequently.
You empower others to think for on their own when you share knowledge with them. They are inspired by your words and achievements and envision ways they could accomplish their dreams as well. They will inspire you as well. The enthusiasm and motivation sparked by you sharing with them; empowers you.
Knowledge is a form of security and as such should be shared freely. You may fear sharing knowledge, thinking that it may undermine you to do that, but that really is not the case. To have a friend, you must be a friend. Most people enjoy helping others and sharing your knowledge is an excellent way to do this. If you do not share with others, they will be reluctant to share with you. But if you do, people will see you as an inspirational leader in your field and you will continue to learn and grow on a daily basis.
